A 30-year-old Witswatersrand student was killed and dumped on the street in Lombardy East on the 25th of May 2025, Sunday.
Olorato Mongale was reported missing by her friends on Sunday afternoon after she went on a date. According to reports, her date picked her up in a white VW Polo at her place in Johannesburg. She let her friends know that she was going on a first date with someone.
The deceased told her friends that if she doesn’t send them a location within an hour, they should be worried. Two hours passed without them receiving anything from her; that is where they realised that their friend was in danger. The friends located her phone through a ‘Find Me’ app; it was at her house in Bramley. The friends immediately went to the house and found her bag and cellphone outside.
On Monday, community members in Lombardy East saw a white VW Polo drop off something suspicious. They alerted each other in a WhatsApp group, and upon inspection, they found Olorato, but unfortunately she was already murdered. Apparently her body was bruised and she had sustained injuries, which definitely proves that she was fighting for her life.
A murder case was opened. It has recently been reported that police have traced and found the VW Polo used in Olorato Mongale’s murder in Durban at the panel beater workshop. The car was found with traces of blood inside. The owner of the car has been arrested, and police are looking for two more suspects, namely Fezile Ngubane and Philangenkosi Sibongokuhle Makhanya. The investigation is still ongoing.
The Witswatersrand students gathered, paying tribute to Olorato; they lit candles and sang for her, showing the love and care they had for their beloved one.
