Who is Siyabonga Sepotokele who plays ‘Sakhile’ on Smoke & Mirrors?

Siyabonga Raymond Sepotokele is a South African actor and singer. He is best known for his numerous TV acting roles as Njabulo on The River, ‘Donald’ on Lingashoni, Karabo on The Republic, and playing two dubious roles: Mac’able on Impilo: The Scam. This actor currently plays the character of ‘Sakhile’ on the E.TV soap opera Smoke and Mirrors.

Siyabonga was born and raised in Orlando East, Soweto, on October 23, 1996; he will be turning 28 years of age as of 2024. His parents are the late Phyllis Sepotokele and Shadrack Ta Sello Ntsibande. Both his mother and father were unemployed, but they made sure he had all he needed. Siya’s mother passed away in January 2017 from cervical cancer. After he got his first acting role as Le-Hasa on Keeping Score, his mother passed away two months later.

Siya attended Sivuleleni Primary School for his basic schooling before enrolling at Zifuneleni Junior Secondary School in Soweto. During his high school years, he participated extensively in both of the renowned Soweto choirs. He was a model student in the classroom as well as in extracurricular activities. He was awarded a full scholarship to attend the prestigious private secondary school St. David’s Marist Inanda, situated in Johannesburg, at the age of 15.

In order to pursue a career in music, he enrolled at Wits University after graduating from high school. After a few months, he stopped going to the university. He decided to give up music because he was conflicted. Despite his parents’ disapproval at seeing him drop out of school to seek a profession in acting, he continued with his studies.

He claims that the actor is no longer available for hire. He said in an interview that his current interests are his fiancée and the job. “It’s fantastic that I am with someone who has advanced me,” he exclaimed.

Siyabonga stopped studying music and started trying out other parts. Luckily, Keeping Score, a SABC 2 drama, gave him his first part.

He portrayed Lehasa, the youngest son of Mmamosa, who inherited the good looks, money sense, and sex appeal of his mother. He made a brief appearance in Season 4 of the Mzansi Magic soap opera IsiBaya in the middle of 2016. He has since appeared in several TV series.

His vocal prowess is still evident despite his decision to discontinue his music education. Siyabonga Raymond Sepotokele’s vocal prowess was on display in 2013 at the annual Lovermore Yamaha music competition, which was hosted by Roedean School.

The competition is limited to candidates who pass an external music examination, and it focuses only on classical repertoire. He gave two performances on June 3rd, the first round of the tournament. Siyabonga Sepotokele performed two songs throughout the competition: “Not While I’m Around” and “Where You Walk.” He won R3,500 in Lovermore Music gift cards for his outstanding performance in the tournament’s final round.
